Learning & Development – A Strategic Imperative for AWR Group
By Hala Kabbarah – Head of Learning and Development

Every breakthrough begins with a curious mind. At AWR Group, our greatest asset is the collective capability of our people. In a world of digital disruption, shifting markets and rising expectations, investing in employee growth isn’t optional, it’s our competitive engine.
In 2024 alone, we delivered 449 focused training programmes, 58 face to face and 391 online and launched 40 new courses on AWR Academy, empowering 1,534 employees to sharpen their skills and drive results.
Learning as a Competitive Advantage
Proactive upskilling turns roadblocks into springboards. AWR Transform challenges senior leaders with real world business cases in a “Dragon’s Den” format, honing their strategic foresight and appetite for experimentation. The Enterprising Leadership Series then convenes senior managers for peer to peer debate and expert-led briefings, most recently on the commercial applications of Artificial Intelligence.
Fast Tracking Tomorrow’s Leaders
Talent progression is a journey, not a milestone. Our Future Emerging Leaders Programme (FELP) identifies high potential mid career professionals and immerses them in stretch assignments, targeted coaching and cross functional projects. By graduation, FELP alumni are primed to lead complex initiatives.
Each summer, the Summer Accelerator compresses leadership essentials – behavioural excellence and digital literacy, into a two month crash course. Graduates leave with both the confidence and competence to launch new projects.
For early career talent, Next Gen offers structured internships across marketing, operations, finance and HR. Students and fresh graduates gain hands on experience, professional mentorship and a clear career pathway within AWR Group.
Upskilling at Scale
AWR Academy, our centralised learning management system, hosts over 10,000 on demand courses, from technical deep dives to leadership essentials. Personalised learning paths and real time analytics enable managers to track progress, spot skills gaps and plan next steps.
To harness internal expertise, we launched the Internal Trainers Programme. Colleagues who excel in areas such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint design, Power BI, Presentation delivery or Arabic for non-native speakers undergo certification to become in house facilitators and then host sessions for all employees. This peer driven model accelerates knowledge transfer and ensures our training content reflects the practical realities of our business.
Well being and Performance
True development is holistic. Through LAYAKA, we run sports tournaments and fitness challenges that keep teams active and connected year round. Quarterly Mental Health Awareness Sessions equip employees with practical tools for resilience and destigmatisation.
At AWR Group, learning and development sits at the core of our People strategy, driving real impact. By delivering high impact leadership programmes, scalable upskilling pathways and peer led expertise, we ensure every colleague is ready to master change, capitalise on fresh possibilities and exceed expectations. This is our commitment: to cultivate a workforce that learns endlessly and leads decisively.
